Here are some nice ideas ...... |
| Mellerstain
House - a treasure of embroidery |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
Mellerstain
House, in the Scottish Borders, is a beautiful Robert Adam
mansion with a particularly lovely collection of
embroideries. Your day will start with a talk about the
needlework in house and how translate an image that inspires
you into an embroidery of your own. Lunch in the Rose
Tearoom will be followed
by a house tour and its special collection which includes
samplers, crewel work, costumes, needlepoint, fans, fabulous
interior colours and furnishings.

| Culloden
Battlefield - family samplers |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
The
wonderful new National Trust for Scotland heritage centre at
Culloden near Inverness is home to a very special sampler.
Stitched in 1746 when the Battle of Culloden was being
fought and the legendary Bonnie Prince Charlie and his army
defeated.
Hear the story behind this embroidery and learn how to
design your own family sampler. Students are invited to
bring a photograph of their house and a list of family names
they would like to include on their embroidery. Art
materials and worksheets required will be included in the
cost of the package.
The day would be hosted at Culloden and would include the
workshop, lunch and heritage site visit.

| Scone
Palace - Needlework by Mary Queen of Scots |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
All
embroiderers would say that if they had more time they would
stitch even more! Mary Queen of Scots certainly had that
time and embroidery became a lovely escape from her very
dramatic life.
This day visit to Scone Palace near Perth includes a lecture
about Mary Queen of Scots, a special viewing of bed hangings
stitched by her during her captivity at nearby Loch Leven
Castle. In 2002 Cobweb Designs were commissioned by Scone
Palace to design a range of cross stitch kits inspired by
this piece of work. Students will have access to all the
photography, designs, samples and portfolio used for this
collection.
The day would include lunch and a tour of the palace.
