Nearly forty years ago Cobweb Designs started as a cottage industry. As its founder I have sewn almost as long as I can remember with a significant moment being the gift from an aunt of an old family sampler stitched in Hawick in 1857. This was to become the inspiration behind Cobweb Designs based at Mellerstain in The Scottish Borders.
The first idea was to design needlework sampler kits representing the magnificent local stately homes. The initial kits were created and offered to a few tourist and needlework shops – I was delighted at the enthusiastic response! Kits representing wonderful properties owned and run by The National Trust for Scotland followed and within a few years the business had taken off to a level barely recognisable from its outset.
With a care for lovely packaging and finest materials Cobweb kits are produced to the highest level. Many designs have the endorsement and credibility of being commissioned by top heritage companies throughout the world.
We’re very fortunate to have a studio situated in a beautiful country location with a business that also allows us to work in the international market place. With a passion for textiles, colour and architecture my day’s work is an absolute pleasure. To be able to create needlework kits that go on to give others so much enjoyment is a pretty top job!
