Daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth was a lady with first-class intellect and a will of iron. ‘The golden days of Queen Bess’ saw England emerge as the dominant world power with Shakespeare’s penning of Hamlet and Drake’s circumnavigation of the globe. The summit of her prowess was reached in 1588 with the defeat of the Spanish Armada. To protect her sovereignty she was also faced with the executing of Mary Queen of Scots. This beautiful sampler reflects these events and the places involved including The Old Palace Hatfield, Hampton Court Palace and Westminster Abbey.
