The city of York has always played and important part in the history of England. It begun as a Roman fortress in AD171 but it was the Vikings who gave it’s name Yorvik.
The sampler design features Micklegate Bar, The Viking Centre, Treasure House, Clifford’s Tower, York Minster, the Mansion House and Fairfax House. The city is surrounded by medieval walls with entrances through gateways called “bars”. The border of this sampler depicts the Walls and Waingate Bar
